HEALTH SCIENCE EDUCATION BUILDING

264,000 GSF - 2012

While at CO Architects, Luciana served as Designer and Project Architect during multiple phases of the Health Sciences Education Building (HSEB) at the University of Arizona Phoenix Biomedical Campus. The project embodies innovative academic architecture, sustainable design, and regional material expression inspired by the dramatic forms and colors of the Arizona desert canyons.

The HSEB features a distinctive copper rainscreen façade that provides both solar protection and passive cooling, maintaining comfortable interior environments while celebrating the natural character of the desert. The design integrates natural light, high-performance systems, and collaborative learning spaces that support future-focused education in medicine, nursing, and health sciences.

This award-winning interdisciplinary facility represents a partnership between the University of Arizona (UA) and Northern Arizona University (NAU)—a model for sustainable campus architecture that promotes collaboration, innovation, and environmental stewardship in higher education.
